The Bachelorette is Having a Baby

Trista and Ryan SutterOf all of the reality shows that claimed to be seeking to help a boy or a girl find “true love” or someone to marry, only The Bachelorette was successful. It’s probably the only one that I actually saw any of anyway. To me, all of those dating shows (including the Joe Millionaire) were all a plot to get young, good looking guys and girls into and out of bathing suits, with varying degrees of intoxication and see what they would do and say.

Each series ended with some kind of rose ceremony. Each of them had someone that was rejected. And each of them said that they were dating or serious when they left (even though they gave a ring to the winner) and we heard that they broke up a few months later– except Trista and Ryan.

ABC was a twitter with the fact that this couple actually seemed like they could make it that they paid for the couple to be on camera for the rehearsal and wedding– which I did see if only to see what they’d do in a fancy paid for wedding. I was glad that someone could make it– that it wasn’t all a sham. And it was nice to see the few places that she appeared after that. So, I’m happy to see this latest bit of news:

Trista and Ryan Sutter, who found love on “The Bachelorette,” are expecting their first child, a representative for the couple said Wednesday.

The baby is due this summer, said publicist Yani Chang. The couple tied the knot in 2003 in a two-hour ABC special.

Ryan Sutter, 32, is a fireman in Vail, Colo. Trista Sutter, 34, is a designer for B’s Purses, an online boutique.

It’s nice to see that he’s still a regular guy and that someone was able to live a regular life. Though I don’t advocate the way that they met, what they did on camera, or the lifestyle that they promoted, I do advocate marriage then having a baby. So, congratulations Trista and Ryan. Thank you for showing us that it isn’t all show, and I pray that your baby lives a normal– non public– life.

  1. Interesting update, thanks, MIn. I hear that Survivor’s Rob and Amber are still together and happy. My big sis told me they even have a cable tv show or something, and now they’re on the Amazing Race All-Stars again. I always liked them, and hope they and couples like Trista and Ryan can help promote marriage and commitment to the public at large!

  2. Look how strange the world is today… We marvel over the things obvious for our ancestors – namely, that people fall in love, get married and have children INSIDE marriage…
There is a reality show now showing young people keeeping chastity – and portraying it as unusual.

I agree – it is unusual in today’s culture. And it is a shame…

  3. I can see your point, Michael, but at the same time anyone in the public eye that is doing the right thing should be praised so that we focus on the good rather than the bad.

  4. It strikes a nerve with me, a really twitchy one at this point. I participate in a popular cricket blog, similar to this, where the author educates the readers on a topic of some sort and the rest of us debate about it. We may have 30 comments per article, pretty standard.

This week he wrote about a current celebrity couple; one of the Australian cricket players and his new supermodel gifrlfriend. I’m watching in despair as the comments have gone easily past a hundred. People are bickering about which woman is right for the cricket star and what’s more, the grammar and spelling of the posts are going to shambles! 😉

People get so passionate about celebrities that it drives me crazy. So I apologize if I’m focusing on the negative, I just want to throw my hands up and say, “Why care?!” If 99% of them can’t maintain a marriage or demonstrate good morals on a daily basis, I wan’t none of it.

  5. People like to have some reference material. Most of the people do not look up to God, as you know, so who else is there to look up to? ‘Your ideals tell me who you are’ – so to speak. Or, as Steve Camp put it yesterday: ‘no one lives greater than their view of God’.

It is only a matter of what/who is God for a man.
Those people are no worse than we were prior to our salvation, Michael. Sometimes we forget too easily, or – sometimes you had the privilege of not experiencing life outside Christianity. Instead of getting mad at them, it is better to love them as Christ loved us…
Of course we cannot endorse this type of living. But we’d better know it exists, we’d better know how their mind operate, if we want to reach them…
