Demonstrating What He Wants to Ban

Sir Elton John believes that he knows the root of all intolerance and he would like it banned.  That root?  Religion.  Specifically what’s your problem with it?  It “promotes the hatred of gays.”

Sir Elton said: “I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays.

“But there are so many people I know who are gay and love their religion. From my point of view I would ban religion completely.

“Organised religion doesn’t seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it’s not really compassionate.”

He added: “The world is near escalating to World War Three and where are the leaders of each religion? Why aren’t they having a conclave? Why aren’t they coming together?

“I said this after 9/11 and people thought I was nuts. Instead of more violence why isn’t there a meeting of religious leaders?

Basically, he’s saying that it’s ok for him to be intolerant of people who disagree with his perversion.  It’s wrong for them to think that what he is doing is sin.  And because he doesn’t like what they are saying, he would refuse them the right to say it.  It’s the ultimate of hypocrisy, since he’s the one saying that religion is wrong for judging him.  Who made him the person to stand in judgement?

And that’s precisely the point.  None of us are in a place where we can fairly and justly judge one another because we all have sinned and fallen short.  If we came up with standards, they would be to our best interest.  One a holy God can come up with what is right and wrong– someone that could keep all of the standards.

In this case, I feel for this man– for he will one day stand before an Almighty God and answer for his behavior.

By the way, it’s not that we “hate gays”– or we shouldn’t be hating the people– it is that we hate the sin.  It goes against nature and nature’s God.  If only we’d have as high a standard against other sins (for therein we are hypocrites as well!).

  1. You know what they say, “ignorance is bliss” and it fits exactly what Elton John is saying. He speaks in utter ignorance, he mocks Tony Blair (great man!) and willfully defies God in every aspect.

He is categorizing everyone that does believe in what he does, and basically that means nothing. Christians are not religous, we have a relationship with our Savior. If he considers me a “lemming” then so be it. I am what I am, and I am not ashamed to say that Jesus Christ is my Lord. I do not hate him, but I will admit freely I hate the sin of homosexuality.

  2. I hate the sin of Homosexuality, among others. Adultery, Fornication, Drunkenness, Liscentiousness, Divorce, the list goes on….

May the Lord be merciful to him. I pray that the Lord would reach down and capture his heart, and turn him to repentance.

  3. Like I said, I find it interesting that this man is all about how some Christians– he believes– hate him, and yet he shows hate by wanting to ban all religion. Seems like he’s pretty blind and self-centered to me.
