The Voice of God Speaking

People Silhouette - Header

As a child, we probably all learned a little rhyme to use with our hands that went like this:

Here’s the church,
here’s the steeple

Open the doors
and see all the people.

To which someone corrected and said that it’s actually the church on the inside, and they’re right.

One of the problems that I see with modern day Christianity is that we tend to be so focused on the church building and what is going on in it, that we miss our chance to impact others, and really miss what Christianity is all about.

One quote that I was reading the other day really struck me to the heart on this issue:

If we had one-third of the enthusiasm of some of the cults we could take a continent.  We have the power and they do not– that is, we have power available to us and they do not.  We have a lazy bunch of evangelicals on our hands. – A.W. Tozer

You see, there are people that come to your door– Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc.– that believe that they have to do this in order to get to Heaven.  They log their hours, they pray prayers, and they truly believe in their message.

We claim that we believe that we have a message the world needs to hear, that there are people dying and going to Hell today, but we seem to be more interested in either arguing about carpet color for the foyer or deciding how to spend God’s money.

It seems to me that Satan’s done a good job at keeping us away from our primary mission on this Earth as far as evangelism by getting us sidetracked into doing things, running programs, and trying to get people to come to church.

God didn’t call us to get people to come to church.  He called us to go and witness, baptize and make disciples!
