So, here’s a solution to the problem of divorce– make it non-existent by telling couples that they’ll only have to live with each other for 7 years.
That’s what Gabriele Pauli thinks is the answer:
“The basic approach is wrong … many marriages last just because people believe they are safe,” she told reporters. “My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years.”
After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.
Of course this woman who is a candidate for office in Bavaria doesn’t have a chance of winning, but don’t think that this idea isn’t something that we’ll be hearing more of in the future.
You see, as the marriage rate declines and the divorce rate increases we will see many people trying to scrap the normal concept of marriage. We’re already seeing it with people wanting to marry the same sex individuals, domestic partnerships, and the like. To those people, having a seven year marriage will seem like a logical solution to placate the “old fogies.”
Only it’s not a solution to the problem, it’s worse. I believe that this will cause more problems, more headaches for families, and the children in these families will begin to realize that they can become detached at any time as well. Not a good situation.
Of course, because the foundation of ‘marriage’ is based upon one’s feelings and not a divine covenant with the One True God. As with all other aspects of life, the anti-Christian mindset places more authority on their emotions, thoughts and desires than on the Word of God.
While this sort of legislation will be harmful, it is also inevitable as the days progress toward the mystery of Babylon. We can try to stop this sort of legislation from passing, but we will certainly fail in the long run. But I recommend that we be very careful to focus not on stopping these things from coming, but on providing people with the Gospel and with Holy insight, from the Scriptures, which provides them with the proper context within which to view these things.
