Multiple news outlets reporting that the National Guard has had to take shelter in the Capitol Parking Garage because of a complaint about masks:
National Guard troops were forced to evacuate the Capitol building grounds on Thursday and hang out in parking garages, allegedly after a Democrat congressman complained about one National Guard member not wearing a mask at a cafe in the building.
According to a source, Rep. Will Keating (D-MA) reported to the Capitol building authorities earlier in the day that a National Guardsman was seen in a Dunkin Donuts without a mask on.
After Keating commented out loud that masks were required to be worn at all times in a federal building, the National Guard member responded, “I appreciate my freedom,” according to the source.

This has led to members of the media offering to find a place for people to stay and members of Congress telling them that they can stay in their offices.
And then, there’s the angry Twitter people that wanted Biden to take over Trump Hotel as a barracks and house them there. Only the Constitution doesn’t allow for military to be housed in private buildings– a leftover from the Revolutionary War days when the red coats were housed in people’s houses without enumeration. Now, DC is a little different, as all the land there is federal land with a lease. This was brought up when then President Trump wanted to put troops in DC for the 4th of July parade and such.
Jack Posobiec (@JackPosobeic) reported on Twitter first that Trump was opening his hotel for them:
Now that Trump has offered and opened the space for them, I wonder how long it will be until the Twitter crowd now tells everyone that they can’t be there. I’ve already seen one post talking about how the accommodations will be bad, and Babylon Bee is saying that this is only until President Biden can get them shipped to Iraq.
