Should the Governors Get Tough?

Fox News is reporting that Trump told the governors they would have to get tough about the rioters. This came out before his announcement last night that he was going to take military means to quell unrest in DC and before his walk to the church:

“They’re going to run over you, you’re going to look like a bunch of jerks. You have to dominate…. You’ve got to arrest people, you have to track people, you have to put them in jail for 10 years and you’ll never see this stuff again. We’re doing it in Washington, D.C. We’re going to do something that people haven’t seen before.”

Fox News reports on a phone call.

Trump to the governors: “Most of you are weak. You have to arrest people. You have to dominate, if you don’t dominate you’re wasting your time.” – Althouse

Government was created to keep people and their property safe. It’s the same authority that they are exercising to tell people that they have to social distance, wear a mask, or remain in lock down to help stop the spread of a virus to uninfected people.

While I’ve seen many complain that Trump was slow to order lock downs for COVID and fast to attempt to stop the riots, I find few that are willing to say that the governors are doing the opposite– which is just more evidence in the disunity of the American people– they only find issues with members of the opposing group.
