Coronavirus Has Shown Us Some Scary Things About Ourselves as a Nation

Like how quickly we are willing to do whatever the government says unquestioningly, what we’re willing to do to people that we disagree with– how we treat them, and how easily we could slip into either socialism or authoritarianism. Times get tough, let’s dump the Constitution and go into full dictatorship mode!

America is in full blown panic mode, just like Saul Alinsky said they’d need to be to change:

“Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and chance the future,”

Saul Alinksy, quoted at Coronavirus and the smell of Saul Alinsky

We’ve always believed that something like this couldn’t happen here. From Mayor DeBlasio’s hotline to report people that aren’t social distancing, to the police chasing down the beach runner, the woman with her kids in the playground and the guy that was playing t-ball with his daughter in an empty park, it’s scary what we’re willing to do to healthy people. It’s the perfect vehicle for people to flex control over others. What else could explain this sort of thing:

It’s just inexcusable, and shows no restraint– and what some will do once they believe they have power over another. This ugly behavior is one of the true things to fear during this time.
