by UPDATE: According to Police sources, the girl pictured in the post below has confessed to making up a story about a mugger that had attacked her and cut the letter B in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
This is a hoax.
This is as bad as the phony “Kill him” comments that I mention in the post to follow.
I’ll leave the post up so that the comments make sense, but the image that follows and the original report were based on false information.
Ouch.
First, the news:
The McCain volunteer Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, was robbed at an ATM then had the letter “B” carved on her face by her Obama-supporting robber.
McCain has called the Ashley’s family– The attacker said the mugger was screaming about McCain when he beat her.
It really scared me the tone that this election is taking. It started prior to the last debate, when there were accusations—that proved to be untrue—that people at a McCain-Palin rally were shouting “kill him.” This put people in a state of shock, and I believe fed into what happened to this 20 year old girl.
The United States has been around for over 200 years, with peaceful transfers of power after each election. There’s no reason to believe that this one would be any different—except that the media is creating the expectation that it will be.
As for the picture above—you cannot blame Sen. Obama with what happened to this girl. If I were Sen. Obama, I’d make sure to denounce this, call the girl and apologize for the actions, and then look forward. He would continue to appear to be above all of it, and the story would go away—for now.
If he does not, it would continue to feed a nagging fear I have in the back of my head that says that anything truly is acceptable in order to win. We’ve already been treated to the idea that speech could be limited in order to foster a better environment for one political party (via the “Fairness Doctrine”) and I know that, from the behavior of the media, there are things that are always tolerated or overlooked when your guy seems to be winning.
In any case, my heart goes out to this woman, and I pray that the person is caught and brought to justice.
Even the police aren’t convinced the attack took place. They’re supposed to administer a polygraph test this week. I find it highly suspect that the “B” is backwards, as if someone were looking in a mirror. Also, the wound is very superficial. It’s a good thing that her attacker had a gentle hand and doesn’t know his letters!

We have enough low-lifes and thugs in the world running loose and causing campaign chaos and fomenting hatred without having to make them up. I’ve been blowing the whistle on the real, left-wing rage not on the front page and in-your-face tactics throughout the election season. Hate crimes hoaxes — by anyone, of any political persuasion, and of any color — diminish us all. Either way, I hope that Todd gets the help she needs, that the whole truth comes out, and that justice is served on the perpetrator. Whoever he or she may be.
