I’m sorry, but I just have to bring this topic up because of a line in the article that announced the impending arrival of a child by Britney’s younger sister:
“It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected,” [Jamie] said. “I was in complete and total shock and so was he.”
What I find amusing is that she was actively engaging in something that she knew got people pregnant, and yet she was somehow in complete and total shock.
This says one of two things to me:
- She doesn’t know how babies are made.
- She doesn’t know that the methods that safe sex advocates promote are not 100% effective.
In either case, it’s a failure of whatever sex ed she had– because the truth is that every time you have sex with someone you have the chance (no matter how small) of becoming pregnant. And your chances of catching a sexually transmitted disease are higher than that!
So, this celebrity, at 16, will being having a child, and I’m very thankful that she is having it, but I pray that it draws attention to the serious nature of sexual activity and helps other teens to choose to save themselves until they are married.
