As parents, we’re given precious gifts from God that we must take and love, nuture and discipline. Most parents have a natural love for their children that does not want to harm them, hates disciplining them, and wants them to be happy.
In some cases, these parents spoil their children and give them everything they ask and never discipline. These children are never happy because they’re never thankful. They believe everything exists to please them.
Then there’s parents like this woman:
A woman and her roommate were charged with starving the woman’s 9-year-old daughter, who weighed just 42 pounds when she was found, was locked up all day and was forced to wear a filthy diaper, authorities said.
Melissa Samoraj, 27, and Raymond LaFountain, 31, were arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated child abuse. The girl was so emaciated that her spine and ribcage were showing when state child welfare officials took her June 30, police said.
The girl also had her hands bound behind her, was locked in a bedroom all day and wore a diaper that went unchanged for hours, officials said. She told police it was punishment for bad behavior.
These women make it harder for us parents who want to discipline and raise our children to be good citizens because they are used by the media and others to paint parents (especially homeschooling parents!) just like these women. “We don’t know what they’re doing in their house with their children. What if they’re starving them too? The only way we’ll know is if they have to attend a public school!”, so their reasoning goes.
Most parents are not like this. This woman is a menace– to her children, community, and to to other parents. She should be punished to the full extent of the law. She should not be used as an example to take away other parent’s children or restrict upstanding parents the abilities to discipline their children in love.
