They say that many things follow the path of the pendulum. The politics of a nation will alter from Conservative to Liberal, from war to peace. They say that fashion goes in circles as well– hang on to the bell bottoms, they told me, for they will be back. And they were right– they’re back with a different name.
I’m no expert on fashion– for that see Rebecca. What I do know is that for all the talk of things swirling around, they never quite go totally back to where they were, but they show the longing for that time.
The Patriot Ledger out of Boston carries an article talking about how the “Girlie Girls” are back for this season’s prom. What they mean to say is that this year’s fashion for the big dance is more about showing glamor than skin. Suffice it to say, there are some that didn’t get the memo.
‘‘One of the major trends in fashion right now is a return to femininity, a return to glamour,’’ said Macy’s spokeswoman Elina Kazan. ‘‘It’s all about being pretty, feeling pretty …a resurgence of the feminine.’’
Kazan said that bright colors and short hemlines are in style this year but the dress will depend on the personal style of the girl and the feel of the prom.
‘‘I think it’s more going to be a girl is going to want to really glamour herself up,’’ Kazan said. ‘‘Think of the glamour goddesses of the ’40s and ’50s.’’
So, let me clear all this talk up for you… It’s still all about me. It’s still all about what I feel like wearing. But we’re going to say it’s about glamor rather than skin because somehow saying it may make people feel better.
In reality, girls are getting away with wearing less and any dress that doesn’t bare the navel, the back, and most of the thigh is progress for our celebrity driven culture. And that is the real issue.
We’ve traveled so far, and moved the line so far away that we think that we’re good when we’re away from the world’s new line. When in reality we’ve crossed the line a long time ago, and have been deceiving ourselves because we are better than the world.
What are you wearing? I’m not talking your outer clothing, per se. Spiritually, physically, are you just a little better than the world so that they know that you’re a good guy/girl, or are you following after true morality and sticking out like someone who’s dressed from head to toe?
