Microsoft Windows Live Writer

I very rarely post on these types of things (though perhaps I should post more) but I’ve found a tool that I will be experimenting with for blogging and I thought I’d pass it along so that if anyone else would like to try it they could.

It’s Windows Live Writer and it’s designed for working with Live Spaces, but you can choose other blogs like WordPress, Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad and many others.

What I really like about this software is that how easy it was to setup. Run the install, point it to my website, give it my username and password, and I was up and running. It has multiple website support for those of you that are running multiple sites.

Its interface is slick, but there were a couple of features that I really like that kept me from doing desktop blogging in the past. One of which was the fact that I can save as a draft on my blog. I usually find lots of things I want to blog on during the day and then write at other times. It’s not practical to always save it locally since I use two different machines. So, now I can save as a draft right to my site.

The other is the ability to control the time. Being a dad with a full time job, I can’t always get the regular times to post, so I like to write a lot at once, schedule the posts, and the reply as people comment. This program lets me do that.

I just added that image that you see at the beginning of this post, and I was amazed at the controls it gave me. But enough of me talking about it, go ahead and give it a whirl yourself!

  1. I just added that image that you see at the beginning of this post, and I was amazed at the controls it gave me.

Um, that would be the image that isn’t displaying correctly? 🙂

Microsoft eh… try as they might, they still cannot make a user interface that works as well as a Mac. 🙂

  2. That was actually my fault– I went in to change the image number to see if I could get a different look and changed it back. So, chalk one up to cockpit error.

  3. Perhaps I should add that this is a semi-colon followed by a close round-bracket.

But as your colon round-bracket was not converted automatically, I wonder if it might be a software issue? Maybe you should go and buy a Mac or install Linux just to try it out 🙂

  4. Must be a software issue. MIn couldn’t see your cute yellow guy. Could it be that my online view is even better than his? Jaw dropping thought.
