The Erosion of Morals

Think About It

Wendy and I have gone back and forth on a number of issues. You can see our latest on spanking in my previous post about Discipline leading to self discipline. Her site, if you go and visit, advertises the fact that it wants prostitution decriminalized. Today, this very sad and sick article shows where her kind of logic ends up. I quote from the Telegraph in the UK:

A 25-year-old waitress who turned down a job providing “sexual services” at a brothel in Berlin faces possible cuts to her unemployment benefit under laws introduced this year. Prostitution was legalised in Germany just over two years ago and brothel owners – who must pay tax and employee health insurance – were granted access to official databases of jobseekers.

So basically, the government declared that this woman must work at a brothel or be forced to come off of unemployment. How would you like this choice? The government says you must use your body this way, or else you can no longer be supported while finding another job.

“There is now nothing in the law to stop women from being sent into the sex industry,” said Merchthild Garweg, a lawyer from Hamburg who specialises in such cases. “The new regulations say that working in the sex industry is not immoral any more, and so jobs cannot be turned down without a risk to benefits.”

Do you see what he’s saying? Since prostitution is no longer immoral in Germany, women are being sent to the sex industry. If you find that appalling, check out the next snippet:

Miss Garweg said that women who had worked in call centres had been offered jobs on telephone sex lines. At one job centre in the city of Gotha, a 23-year-old woman was told that she had to attend an interview as a “nude model”, and should report back on the meeting. Employers in the sex industry can also advertise in job centres, a move that came into force this month. A job centre that refuses to accept the advertisement can be sued.

So, basically, the call centre can protect these women, but if they don’t place people they don’t get paid, and more and more brothels are placing ads.

It starts out as “we want the choice” and ends up “you have to do this or lose unemployment.” Watch Europe and what happens there, because they are a good indicator of what could happen here if we lose our moral standings!

  1. I had no idea prostitution was legal anywhere.
Just another thing to “look forward” to…I remember when the gay lifestyle was severely frowned upon, and now anyone opposed to it is severely frowned upon.
    We need a revival!

  2. I advocate for the DECRIMINALIZATION of prostitution not the legalization, they are quite different, and no sex worker organization in the World wants legalization, and your post proves why we don’t want legalization, we want to be the ones who make choices with our OWN bodies, not have the government tell us what we can and can’t do with them!

  3. If no sex worker organization in the world wants legalization, then why is it being legalized? The nuance between the two words escapes most of us, and surely government. Plus, you still fail to present a decent argument why decriminalization prevents abuse of sex workers, and how it will not grow into legalization.

  4. By decriminaling prostitution women will no longer fear arrest and therefore would no longer have to work in unlit and dangerous places. Plus, she would be able to file a police report without fear of arrest. Please know that no government or religion in history, including the most repressive, (i.e. those that have the death penalty for prostitution, Iran, Afganistan, etc.) have ever been able to eradicate our noble profession. For the simple reasons that money and sex are so much more powerful governments and / or religions.

  5. Your assumption about police reports has one fatal flaw. There are many women in the “profession” at the moment that want out. They were trapped into it, sold into it, etc. The men/women that handle them work skillfully at making them think that there is no way out. They keep them caged and trapped, and decriminalization is not going to change that.

Furthermore, no government or religion has ever been able to remove murder, theft, etc. Does that mean that those things should also be decriminalized? Why have any laws, since they will always not be able to get everyone guilty of breaking it?

Lastly, how is a “profession” considered noble when it treats humans as nothing more than mere objects, fosters the ability to cheat on spouses for money, and caters to the basest of instincts of man– that all I should care about is myself: How much money I can make, how much pleasure I can have, etc.

The dictionary describes noble as: “Having or showing qualities of high moral character, such as courage, generosity, or honor: a noble spirit.” None of these are fostered by prostitution and all of these are about others, not self.

Lastly, and more important, God decreed the use of sex– procreation between a man and a woman. That’s why though religion and government may not have the effect that it should, God is having an effect. Disease, and then a judgement before Him awaits. Out of a heart of love, I wish the women that you know would see that the God of love has chosen a better way than what you seek to gain.

  6. Wendy, the ‘noble’ comment caught me as well (I just can’t see the profession as that noble). MIn went over that pretty well so I’ll leave it at that.

As for legalization, I wonder on what moral basis should we decry a person to NOT become a prostitute? 18, maybe 16? If a girl of 14 says it’s her body and she wants to pursue such a profession, then on what basis are we to argue against it? I don’t think the ‘unlit and dangerous places’ are what hurts prostitutes. I believe such places aren’t nearly as indicted in perpetrating the crime, as much as their clients and the sin they carry and inflict.

In breaking down certain moral standards in a society, we merely aim for mediocrity rather than reaching for what’s great and truly noble. When we begin to treat women simply as ‘things’ and objects rather than what God had in mind (that he made both men and women in His image), then we are missing the mark (both as men- and women).

I wish Wendy, that you would see yourself as precious in God’s eyes, and that your views just simply aren’t aligned with how much He truly loves and cares for you.

  7. America is well on its way to becoming like Europe. We allow over 2 million babies a year to be murdered. We allow homosexuality to be taught in our schools and we proudly display it in television shows. Our young children are having sex at younger and younger ages. We are taking GOd out of everything we can. There is no respect being taught in the home and if it is the parent is called abusive. Christians sit in the pews with the rest of the world and let it happen. Proverbs 17:13 says: Whoever rewards evil for good, evil will not depart from his house. God bless and keep up the good work.

  8. What is not noble about prostitution? Unless it is not noble to make another person feel good. I wonder how many other jobs make people feel good, I know there there but there isn’t many!

  9. It scares me to think along the lines that bipolarfrenzy points out… I mean just what age will this stop at? In today’s society we are gearing up for child’s “rights” to choose when they are old enough to engage in sexual solicitation, in sexual relationships wiht adults, and in marraige… *shudder*

And Wendy, though you are/were a call girl, and seem to think that it was OK and not immoral, I have this feeling that within yourself you know better. Though I hate to admit the state I was in before I knew Christ, I am familiar with your line of “work”, not quite as directly as you are, but close enough. And no amount of “work” in that area made me feel whole inside, only used and dirty and worn out… I pray that the Lord will be merciful to you as He was to me, and will give you a soft heart. That you might hear His voice and come to Him.

    Enjoying my forgiveness,

    Mrs. Meg Logan
